Importing Paper Space Layouts From Another Drawing

A customer just called and said he wanted to copy some of the layout tabs from another drawing into his new drawing. I didn’t know how to do this so I asked Alan here what to do. Here is how you do this:

1. Start a New drawing using our template
2. Use the AutoCAD INSERT command and insert the Architect drawing into your new one
3. Right Click on any tab (Model or Layout) and pick From template…

4. Pick the Files of Type drop down list at the bottom of the ensuing dialog and pick Drawing (*.dwg)
5. Select the drawing you want to pull Layouts from
6. You will get a list of available Layouts from that drawing. Pick the one you want or use the usual Windows selection keys like Ctrl and Shift to select more than one

    Art, I believe this can also be done with the AutoCAD Design Center in a drag and drop format.
    (In 2007…)
    1) Open the design center tool palette (Goto Tools->Palettes->Design Center)
    2) Navigate to the drawing that has the desired layouts under the “Folders” tab. When you find the drawing, expand the drawing (click the “+” sign) in the folder list pane to expose the transferable collections.
    3) Select the “Layouts” collection and then simply drag the appropriate layout tab from the right hand pane to the open drawing.

    Joe – Yes. After I talked to Al about it, he pointed out that the Design Center can also do it.
    I always forget about that thing…
